Video Poker is a popular game that can be played in casinos across the globe, or alternatively at home on your computer, through a net account. The rules are very straightforward and involve the player trying to achieve the highest assemblage of cards achievable in order to acquire money. In this respect it’s very similar as a classic game of poker, apart from the involvement with any other players. Of course, tactics employed during a physical game of poker, like bluffing, will be useless here.
The game of Electronic Poker begins when the bettor inserts credits (whether it’s tokens, credit slips or money) into the video poker machine and pushes the deal button. A hand of 5 cards will then be electronically ‘dealt’ on the video screen.
The Video Poker machine also has hold buttons, and gamblers should now decide which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the gambler wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they want, whether it’s all or none.
After the player has selected which cards he wishes to keep, the player will then press ‘deal’, which will mean that any new cards are handed out if desired. The hand is now finished, with the Video Poker machine analyzing the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands shown on the payout schedule.
Typically, the minimum winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money growing for each better hand. A list of common winning hands begins with jacks or better, and moves on to two pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It should be known that the payment schedule can vary from machine to machine, so that knowledgeable enthusiasts are agile enough to select the most profitable ones every time.
After the first round has completed, the player can either choose to remain on and try to to maximize their earnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any cash that they may have won. Further, a few styles of the game give the enthusiast an opportunity to double their wins, in which case a further hand is played. There are also variations between individual machines, with some decks of cards including wild cards and other varying aspects to increase playability.
